This poem made a strong impression on me when I read it because, unfortunately, I can relate. It’s called “This Frozen Ocean in My Chest is Getting Crowded” by Justin Hyde and currently appears in Word Riot. It starts:
“last night
my aunt down in
kirksville missouri
went in her sleep.a year ago
i watched
my only grandpa stop
on a hospice bed
in his living room.”

If you like Hyde’s work, he has quite a few poems and a couple of stories posted at Thieves Jargon. You can view them here or visit the Thieves Jargon homepage here.
