Haiku (Idol’s Behavior Less than Idyllic)

you’re not who I thought
when I put you up there–give
back my pedestal

by Edie Montgomery-Pool

This haiku was inspired by an experience a friend had. She met an American Idol who turned out to be not at all like their “nice person” image. It sounded like the fame went to their head. Hopefully that person will get a better grasp on things eventually and turn themselves around.

My friend met a lot of other American Idols who were just as awesomely cool as you would expect them to be.

Although the poem was inspired by them, it’s not just about that one person — it could be about anyone. I wanted to portray what it feels like when you think highly of someone only to be let down by them.  I think everyone has experienced that feeling at least once in their life.

Wow, that was a lot of discussion for one tiny, little haiku. Did not set out to ramble on like that – LOL.

American Idol Fans Meet their Idols … and Blog to Tell About It

There’s a new website in town, and it’s called The Fan Girlz, featuring all things American Idol.  It has a lot to choose from for Idol fans, including videos (did you know Danny Gokey loves pedicures?), games, and contests (like “Who Can Do the Best Stank Face?”).

But my favorite part of the site, by far, are the blog entries featuring regular people who go to the American Idol tours and meet the contestants.  You get to experience how cool that is virtually and vicariously without actually standing in the blazing sun or pouring rain for 7 hours.  Works for me.

Here are some excerpts.  For the full experience, click the links to read the entire article:

1. Michelle Burditt recaps meeting Matt Giraud, Michael Sarver, Megan Joy, Danny Gokey, and Kris Allen in Atlanta Georgia.

Michael then continues signing autographs but before he leaves our section, I ask him if the name jnz1986 sounded familiar, but he didn’t hear me and asked me to repeat myself. That’s when it hit! The dreaded shyness no one believes I have! I stared back at him like a deer in headlights, shook my head and mouth nevermind! LOL I’m such a dork. He looked at me hesitantly and went on with what he was doing.

2. Danette Tindall recaps meeting Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Scott MacIntyre, and Matt Giraud in Dallas Texas, and how Adam Lambert changed her life.

THEN KRIS AND MATT came out: 2 of my favorites!!!! I couldn’t believe it. But I was BALLING! I was definitely crying a river. Haha I was like “Wow! What if Allison and Adam come out at the same time?” I would have probably fainted.

3. Jennifer Davis recaps meeting Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Michael Sarver, Matt Giraud, Lil Rounds, and Allison Iraheta in Los Angeles, California.

[Danny Gokey] was really super sweet and nice and totally genuine – all of that definitely made my sunburned forehead, arms, legs, knees, and top & bottom of both my feet, totally worth it. In fact they all walked out so fast that I didn’t even have time to put my flip flops back on! So I was standing barefoot on the hot ground the entire time they were out there! haha Good times though!

Professional Sarcasm — The Celebrity Interview

Ken Levine, well-known Hollywood director, writer, and producer (M.A.S.H., Cheers), penned a very funny and sarcastic piece on How to Interview a Celebrity.  He gives young entertainment journalists advice such as:

“Never EVER talk about yourself or bring up any topic other than her. She will stare at you in disbelief like you just killed her puppy.”

“Once the budding young diva starts yammering learn what is print-worthy and what is just utter brain-dead nonsense. Listen carefully because often you won’t be able to distinguish one from the other.”

The article appears on Levine’s Blog at the internet newspaper, The Huffington Post.  I also like his take on the backstage workings of American Idol.
